Meeting Called to Order at 1:31 pm – Quorum was established.

III. Approval of the Minutes
3.1 Kevin Paxton stated that under item 6.5 Jasmine Hormati resigned as Senator of
Humanities and not as Commissioner.

Motion to approve the Senate minutes for March 24, 2011 as amended made
by Jessica Lopez. Seconded by Nicole Reinertsen. Motion passed

3.2 Motion to approve Senate minutes as is for March 31, 2011 made by Jessica
Lopez. Seconded by Dalal Budri. Motion Passed.
IV. Approval of the Agenda

Motion to approve the agenda as is for April 7, 2011 made by Jessica Lopez.
Seconded by Jasmine Hormati. Motion passed.

Motion to change the order of the day: items 6.4 to 6.1 and 6.3 to 6.4 made by
Jessica Lopez. Seconded by Nicole Reinertsen. Motion Passed.
V. Information Items
5.1 El Camino College’s Budget Cuts– Matthew Cheung
Prop 98s taxes are due to end this June, and need to be passed again to continue. The
Tuition for El Camino will increase to $36 per unit. He attended a conference in
Sacramento in an attempt to lobby for El Camino College and its students.
His idea is to have students write their stories on postcards and have them mailed to
the state officials in Sacramento in an attempt to make the budget cuts more personal;
also for ASO to help spread the word to vote for Prop 98. Pasadena College wants El
Camino to join in lobbying and SMC may as well.
VI. New Business
6.1 Finance Items- Jessica Lopez
6.1.1 Motion to transfer $80 from AS Hospitality account #71-55001-00836104-7670 to AS Elections account # 71-55001-00-836102-7670
made by Jessica Lopez. Seconded by Nicole Reinertsen. Motion

6.1.2 Motion to transfer $20 from AS Supplies account # 71-55001-00836101-7670 to AS Elections account # 71-55001-00-836102-7670
made by Jessica Lopez. Seconded by Jasmine Hormati. Motion
Passed.
6.1.3 Motion to approve $500 from AS Elections to pay for expenses
related to ASO elections. Expenses may include but are not limited to,
poll worker salaries, copying of ballots and promotional expenses
made by Jessica Lopez. Seconded by Kenji Tomoda. Motion Passed.
6.2 Fundraising-Rebekka Asher
6.2.1 Motion to have Jamba Juice come on campus May 11, 2011 made by
Rebekka Asher. Seconded by Nicole Reinertsen. Motion Passed.
6.2.2 Motion to have the Red Robin fundraiser at South bay Galleria on
May 17, 2011 made by Rebekka Asher. Seconded by Dalal Budri.
Motion Passed.
6.2.3 Motion to have the Buffalo Wild Wings fundraiser event at Del Amo
Fashion Center on April 20, 2011 made by Rebekka Asher. Seconded
by Patrick Mondestin-Howard. Motion Passed.
6.3 Smoking on Campus Policy-Jasmine Hormati

Jasmine Hormati stated that cancer.org has changed to American Cancer
Society.com
 Motion to have ASO support version two of the smoking on campus
policy, made by Jasmine Hormati. Seconded by Jessica Lopez. Motion
Passed.
6.4 Appointments-Jessica Lopez
6.4.1 Motion to appoint Jack DeMont to Senator of Fine Arts made by
Jessica Lopez. Seconded by Jasmine Hormati. Motion Passed.
6.4.2 Motion to table 6.4.2 until next senate meeting made by Jessica
Lopez. Seconded by Rebekka Asher Motion Passed.
6.4.3 Motion to table 6.4.3 until next senate meeting made by Jessica
Lopez. Seconded by Cindy Valdez. Motion Passed.
6.4.4 Motion to appoint Jasmine Hormati as Co-chair for Academic
Awards made by Jessica Lopez. Seconded by Nicole Reinertsen.
Motion Passed.
6.5 BP&AP 4021- Jessica Lopez
Jessica Lopez stated the discussion of which sections and programs will be cut on
campus is going on, some reduced and others discontinued. She wants ASO to
support this process and that ASO needs to attend to have a say in what is going
to be cut from the College.
 Motion for the Senate to support BP&AP 4021 policies made by Jessica
Lopez. Seconded by Rebekka Asher. Motion Passed.
6.6 Hands Across California- Camille Johnson (not present)
Jessica Lopez stated that ASO should support the event and there needs to be 50
people from El Camino College to be Line Marshals.
Sharon Asher asked what qualifies to be a Line Marshal, Jessica Lopez responded
nothing. There will be an E-mail with more information. The event will hold a
raffle giving free tuition away for up to 12 units to 3 students.
VI. Reports
7.1 ASO Member Reports
 Jasmine Hormati reported that if anyone wants to use the projector, to give a 24
hour in advance notice first. Jasmine attended the GA meeting along with the
student break out session dealing with veterans and student fees. There was 1
important resolution change, the voting process moved to Saturday instead of
Sunday. The Hair Donation event was a success, 100 people donated hair. There
were news reports and newspaper reports present as well.
 Nicole Reinertsen reported that ASO now has a Facebook page.
 Johanna Zamora reported the next Board of Trustees meeting is on April 18th.
 Patrick Mondestin-Howard reported on the day of the science fair Manhattan
Beach Blvd. will be closed due to the Torrance Youth Day. ECCs Robotics club
won the robotics competition and the new shop buildings are in the
development/schematic phase.
 Jessica Lopez reported that new ASO applicants are here as guests and need to be
interviewed.
7.2 ICC Reports

Rebecca Cobb stated the spring games will be held on April 22, 2011. Jessica
Lopez and Tim Linehan were challenged to Presidential battle against ICC’s Nick
and Damien. Also the deadline for making a new club is also on April 22nd.
7.3 AGS Reports
Rebecca Cobb reported one of their members won a top scholarship awards at the
state wide conference.
7.4 Committee Reports
Cindy Valdez sent out an E-mail about the policy committee and no one replied.
7.5 Adviser Reports
Rebecca Cobb reported that today is the last day to turn in the CCCSAA
scholarship applications. Ms. Cobb also stated that the hair donation event was
well done and thanked those who attended SSCCC. She also knows that with
ASO’s help, H.A.C will be a success.
VIII. Public Comments
 Dalal Budri stated that budget option three most likely will be in effect: winter session is
officially without classes, summer will be reduced by about 30%; discussion isn’t over
yet.
 Tim Linehan welcomed the new ASO applicants.
 Kevin Paxton stated that everyone needs to keep the offices cleaner. Everyone should
pick up after themselves.
IX. Adjournments
 Motion to adjourn the Senate meeting at 2:13pm, made by Patrick Mondestin
Howard. Seconded by Jasmine Hormati. Motion passed.
