Passive Voice - Perfect System
We are now going to use the 4th principal
part of Latin verbs.
perfect, pluperfect, future perfect
Look at the following sentences:
Triclinium paratum est.
The dining room has been prepared.
Tres lecti positi erant.
Three couches had been placed.
Cena confecta erit.
Dinner will have been finished.
The perfect, pluperfect and future perfect
passive are formed by using the 4th principal
part and a form of the verb sum, esse.
So far the 4th principal part of verbs have
ended in -us, we will now add -a and -um. This
is because this form of the verb acts as an
adjective and agrees in case, number and
gender.
Triclinium paratum est.
triclinium is neuter
and singular, so is
paratum
Tres lecti positi erant.
lecti is masculine and
plural, so is positi
Cena confecta erit.
