Purpose
This unit standard is for people working in the yarn making
industry. People credited with this unit standard are able to:
describe the machine variables and their effect on ball
construction; and set-up a balling machine for safe and efficient
processing of balls that meet specification.

Competency will be demonstrated on either a manual or automatic doffing machine.

Plant safety practices comply with Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992 and
workplace procedures.

Machine variables that can be changed during set-up are identified and
described in terms of the way they affect processing and product quality.
