Elements and performance criteria
Element 1
Describe the planning and checks required prior to installing metal roof tiles.
Performance criteria
1.1
Purpose of the work sheet, plan, or job schedule is described in terms of
defining the work to be done.
1.2
Site check activities are described in accordance with site procedures.
Range
1.3
may include but not limited to – preparing the site, health and
safety checks and signs, site hazards.
Roof framing checks that are used to verify the builder’s work prior to
commencing roof installation are described.
Element 2
Demonstrate knowledge of material calculations and checks to establish the quantity and
condition of delivered materials.
Performance criteria
2.1
Methods for determining material quantities are explained in accordance with
industry practice.
Range
2.2
roof area from plans, tile quantity, underlay quantity.
Delivered material checks against specifications are described in accordance
with industry practice.
Range
materials include – battens, underlay, fasteners, pressed metal
tiles, accessories, sealant.
Element 3
Demonstrate knowledge of the organisational procedures used for installing metal roof
tiles.
Performance criteria
3.1
Purpose of communication and toolbox meetings is described in terms of
information sharing and job organisation.
3.2
Procedures for handling and protecting materials are identified in accordance
with site procedures.

3.3
Procedures for using ladders/scaffolding and walking on roofs are described in
accordance with site procedures.

Providers must be accredited by NZQA, or an inter-institutional body with delegated
authority for quality assurance, before they can report credits from assessment against
unit standards or deliver courses of study leading to that assessment.
Industry Training Organisations must be accredited by NZQA before they can register
credits from assessment against unit standards.
Accredited providers and Industry Training Organisations assessing against unit standards
must engage with the moderation system that applies to those standards.
