This unit standard is for people within social service provider
settings who are responsible, or intend to have responsibility,
for providing information to the governing body to assist
decision making by that body.
People credited with this unit standard are able to define and
gather information required for governance decision making
in a social service provider setting, and provide information
required for governance decision making in a social service
provider setting.

People awarded credit in this unit standard are able to
implement Te Tiriti o Waitangi in the social services
according to the authority and resources available to
them, and are able to demonstrate application of this
competence to the context of assessment for this unit
standard (for further clarification, please refer to Unit
7928, Implement Te Tiriti o Waitangi in the social
services).

This unit standard covers the competencies required for
contributing information to assist governance decision
making, from the perspective of the role holder’s actual
or proposed area of responsibility within a social service
provider.

This unit standard may be assessed on the basis of
evidence of demonstrated performance in the work
place, or through the use of simulated work place
situations that closely approximate the performance
required in workplace settings.

All communications are treated confidentially. The
scope and limits of confidentiality are defined through
negotiation and informed consent, and criteria
established by legislation, ethical practice, and service
provider guidelines. In the context of this unit standard,
sources of criteria established by legislation, ethical
practice, and service provider guidelines include but are
not limited to: legislation or founding documents
governing operations of the social service provider,
Official Information Act 1982, Privacy Act 1993,
Evidence Amendment Act (No 2) 1980, codes of
practice issued by the Privacy Commissioner, social
service codes of ethics, and service provider guidelines,
protocols, staff manuals, strategic plans, kawa or
tikanga.

Characteristics and needs of the people being
interviewed may be physical, spiritual, or mental, and
include age and stage of development, culture,
disability, gender, health status, language, sexual
orientation, and needs for physical comfort, safety, and
privacy.

body are based upon analysis and interpretation of the information, justified by
reasoned argument and relevant evidence.

The information is submitted to the governance body within the specified time
period.

Where no time period is specified, the information is submitted to the
governance body according to the time needed for members of the governance
body to consider the information prior to decision making or action.
