This unit standard is based on the unit of competency SIRRRPK008A, Recommend
jewellery products and services. The Retail Industry Training Organisation
acknowledges the assistance provided by the Australian Service Industries Skills
Council (Service Skills Australia) in permitting the unit of competency to be used as
the basis for this unit standard.

Competency for this standard requires evidence for three different pieces of
jewellery.

Definition
Jewellery includes rings, necklaces, bracelets, chains, brooches, earrings, watches.
Organisational procedures refer to instructions to staff on policy and procedures
which are formally documented, or generally accepted within the workplace.

Elements and performance criteria
Element 1
Describe care and maintenance of jewellery.
Performance criteria
1.1
Handling of jewellery to prevent damage or breakage is described in
accordance with organisational procedures.
1.2
Cleaning of jewellery to maintain condition is described in accordance with
organisational procedures.
1.3
Maintenance procedures to ensure the stability and safety of jewellery are
described in accordance with organisational procedures.
1.4
Routines to ensure displays of jewellery are regularly cleaned and replenished
are described in accordance with organisational procedures.
Element 2
Clean, polish and display jewellery.
Performance criteria
2.1
Jewellery is cleaned and polished in accordance with organisational
procedures.
2.2
Practices to ensure safety and security of jewellery displays are demonstrated
in accordance with organisational procedures.
2.3
Displays of jewellery are cleaned and replenished in accordance with
organisational procedures.
Please note
Providers must be accredited by NZQA, or an inter-institutional body with delegated
authority for quality assurance, before they can report credits from assessment against
unit standards or deliver courses of study leading to that assessment.
Industry Training Organisations must be accredited by NZQA before they can register
credits from assessment against unit standards.
Accredited providers and Industry Training Organisations assessing against unit standards
must engage with the moderation system that applies to those standards.

Accreditation requirements and an outline of the moderation system that applies to this
standard are outlined in the Accreditation and Moderation Action Plan (AMAP). The
