Elements and performance criteria
Element 1
Prepare self and equipment, and assess facilities and deer, for tuberculin (Tb) testing.
Performance criteria
1.1
Arrangements are made for Tb testing with the stock owners or persons in
charge of animals in accordance with allocation.
1.2
Personal equipment and Tb testing equipment are prepared in accordance with
the requirements of the test, and application.
1.3
Farm, herd and stock owner details on allocation are checked with the farmer or
persons in charge of animals for accuracy.
1.4
Circumstances where tests must not be carried out are described in accordance
with Deer Tb Tester Guidelines.
Range
1.5

Deer are identified and assessed, and facilities are assessed, for situations of
unsuitability for the Tb test in accordance with Deer Tb Tester Guidelines and
allocation.
Range
situations of deer unsuitability include – stage of pregnancy,
presence of pain, body condition, inability to stand;
situations of facility unsuitability include – design or maintenance
of facility preventing restraint of deer for testing.
Please note
Providers must be accredited by NZQA, or an inter-institutional body with delegated
authority for quality assurance, before they can report credits from assessment against
unit standards or deliver courses of study leading to that assessment.
Industry Training Organisations must be accredited by NZQA before they can register
credits from assessment against unit standards.
Accredited providers and Industry Training Organisations assessing against unit standards
must engage with the moderation system that applies to those standards.
Accreditation requirements and an outline of the moderation system that applies to this
standard are outlined in the Accreditation and Moderation Action Plan (AMAP). The
AMAP also includes useful information about special requirements for organisations
wishing to develop education and training programmes, such as minimum qualifications for
tutors and assessors, and special resource requirements.
