Purpose
In the context of erecting and dismantling tube and fitting
scaffolding people credited with this unit standard are able to:
–
establish a safe area on the next working lift;
–
build the working lift;
–
check the structure is compliant;
–
ready the lift above; and
–
dismantle tube and fitting scaffolding.

Unit standard 20858, Base out tube and fitting scaffolding; Unit
standard 20861, Demonstrate, at height, safety procedures for
the erection of scaffolding; Unit standard 20862, Demonstrate,
at height, safety procedures for the dismantling of scaffolding;
and Unit standard 23228, Complete a scaffolding inspection
compliance report; or demonstrate equivalent knowledge and
skills.

This unit standard has been developed for learning and assessment on-job or off-job
in a simulated environment.

All tasks must be carried out in accordance with the Best Practice Guide (BPG)
based on:
a quality management systems;
b designer’s requirements and manufacturers' operating instructions; and
government and local government legislation, regulations, bylaws, Health and
Safety in Employment Act 1992, and Health and Safety in Employment
Regulations 1995;
c the most up to date version of the:

Definition
Scaffolding as defined in the BPG and in the Health and Safety in in Employment
Regulations 1995.
Outcomes and evidence requirements
Outcome 1
Establish a safe area on the next working lift.
Evidence requirements
1.1
The lift above is accessed.
Range
all access must be internal via planking and ladder.
1.2
An initial guardrail is attached.
1.3
The stop end is closed.
Outcome 2
Build the working lift.
Range
using correct sequence consistent with the scaffold plan; external components
fitted first.
Evidence requirements
2.1
Fit joiners to standards in accordance with the scaffold plan.
2.2
Stand and check for vertical, standards at height consistent with the scaffold
plan.
2.3
Walk out guardrails in sequence.
2.4
Fit mid rails, ledgers and transoms in sequence.
2.5
Lash planks and kickboards on the working lift.
2.6
Brace the structure.

may include – transverse, longitudinal, parallel braces.

Check the structure is compliant.

Evidence requirements
3.1
Check the structure for compliance with the BPG inspection report and the
scaffold plan.
3.2
Complete the BPG inspection report.
3.3
Make changes where structure is not compliant to ensure compliance and
amend the BPG inspection report accordingly.
Outcome 4
Ready the lift above.
Evidence requirements
4.1
Check transoms for spacing and square on vertical and horizontal.
4.2
Place planks on the lift above.
4.3
Build internal access to the lift above.

Dismantle tube and fitting scaffolding.
Evidence requirements
5.1
Dismantle the deck in sequence.
Range
5.2
all components removed progressively beginning with kickboards
and mid rails from the top working lift.
Descend to the lift below the dismantled deck.
