Holders of this qualification will have the knowledge and skills to supervise tasks and activities on an infrastructure works site. The compulsory section of the qualification contains standards that ensure holders have essential knowledge and skills for working at an infrastructure works site with responsibility for protecting site health and safety, site resource planning and use, liaison with affected parties, site quality assurance, protecting the immediate environment, measuring, record keeping, and site supervision. The elective section of the qualification enables people to choose complementary knowledge and skills in infrastructure works planning, operations, and supervision; people development and coordination; training and verification; interpersonal communications; quality and time management; occupational health and safety; protection of the environment; understanding of the infrastructure works industry; the operation and maintenance of infrastructure plant and equipment; and temporary traffic management. Candidates who require additional supervisory knowledge and skills in specific work contexts have the ability to choose optional strands covering sector specific knowledge and skills in supervising civil works and utilities, asphalt and chipseal surfacing, road works, water, and wastewater. This qualification builds on the knowledge and skills recognised in a range of lower level technical qualifications in infrastructure works for bulk earthmoving, civil construction, civil plant operation, forestry, road construction and maintenance, horizontal directional drilling, infrastructure pipelaying, pavement surfacing, roadmarking, and water reticulation. Upon completion of this qualification, people may wish to consider other relevant Level 4 qualifications, such as the: National Certificate in Business (First Line Management) (Level 4) [Ref: 0649] National Certificate in Project Management (Level 4) [Ref: 1500]. This qualification leads to the: National Certificate in Infrastructure Works Supervision (Level 5) with optional strands in Civil Plant Management, Civil Works, Pavement Surfacing, Roadmarking, Road Works, and Rural Contracting [Ref: 1659].
