Purpose
This qualification is intended for people who are in a senior forest operations crew
management role. They will have demonstrated competence in managing the operations
of a contracting business to achieve specified work outcomes while maximising efficiency
and minimising costs in the business.
This qualification provides a blend of operational management and improvement, people
management and leadership, and on job compliance with legislation, regulations and
forest owner requirements.
This qualification includes standards in common with the National Diploma in Forestry
(Operations Management) (Level 5) [Ref: 1532] and the National Certificate in Forestry
(Business Management) (Level 5) [Ref: 0820].
This qualification adds a management dimension to the National Certificate in Forest
Operations Advanced (Level 4) with strands [Ref: 1412], and leads to the National Diploma
in Forestry (Operations Management) [Ref: 1532]. It also includes skills and knowledge
that complement the National Certificate in Forestry (Business Management) [Ref: 0820].
The elective has been designed to allow people to choose the quality control standard
specific to the type of operation they are managing.
Special Notes




It is recommended that candidates hold the National Certificate in Forest Operations
Advanced (Level 4) with one of the following strands: Establishment and Silvicultural
Operations Management, Production Tree Felling, Hauler Set-Up, Machine Operations
- Hauler, Head Breaker Out - Cable Harvesting, Log Making, Machine Operations - Log
Extraction, Machine Operations - Loader, Mechanised Tree Felling, Mechanised
Processing, Inventory, and Helicopter Logging [Ref: 1412].
It is recommended that candidates hold the National Certificate in Business (First Line
Management) (Level 3) [Ref: 0743].
It is recommended that the compulsory section of this qualification is completed before
the elective section. The skill and knowledge requirements of the compulsory section
will contribute to the learning required for competency in the elective standards.
Assessments completed from the Forestry subfield for this qualification must be verified
by a third party who can attest that the candidate has consistently demonstrated the
skill and knowledge outcomes specified in the standard in the workplace.
