People credited with this unit standard are able to: demonstrate
knowledge of health and safety requirements; maintain health
and safety; demonstrate knowledge of fire control procedures;
and comply with safety requirements for handling and storing
hazardous substances in a distribution facility.

1
Performance of the outcomes of this unit standard must comply with the
requirements of the following: Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992,
Hazardous Substances and New Organisms Act 1996, and their subsequent
amendments.

Definitions
Distribution facility refers to a workplace where the primary focus is on storage and
distribution of stock.
Organisational procedures refer to instructions to staff on policy and procedures
which are formally documented, or generally accepted within the workplace.

Demonstrate knowledge of health and safety requirements in a distribution facility.
Evidence requirements
1.1
Requirements of the Health and Safety in Employment Act are identified and
described in accordance with organisational procedures.
Range
1.2
may include but are not limited to – emergency procedures,
hazard identification and management, first aid, plant isolation.
Emergency procedures are outlined in accordance with organisational
procedures.

Evidence requirements
2.1
Housekeeping is maintained in accordance with organisational procedures.

may include but is not limited to – cleanliness, freedom from
damage, correct placement, correct packaging, clear labelling,
special requirements met.
2.2
Protective clothing suitable for the task is selected and worn.
2.3
Hazardous situations in own working areas are identified, reported and action is
taken to eliminate, isolate, or minimise the hazards in accordance with
organisational procedures and legislative requirements.

3.3
Use of fire extinguishers is explained according to manufacturer's operating
instructions.

Evidence requirements
4.1
Properties of hazardous substances are identified.

4.2
