conformation is preferred for the cationic and neutral complex, but for anionic complex
the eclipsed form is adopted.

A small imaginary frequencies (28.8 and 13.0 Hz) was found for neutral [Cp*Al(–
H3)AlCp*] complex corresponding to rotation of hydrogen’s and Cp ligand around AlAl axis. For neutral [CpAl(–H3)AlCp] no imaginary frequencies was found, but the
conformation was clearly shown to be staggered for both neutral and anionic
complexes.
Fluxional Phenomenon.

The optimised Structures of CpAlH2 using B3LYP/6-311+G** method: S1 (H2Al(η2–
Cp)) minimum , S2 (H2Al(η5–Cp)) and S3 (H2Al(η3–Cp)) transition state linking S1
with himself in direct and reverse path way. The transition state S2 where the hapticity
is η5 ensures easily the permutation between all carbons of the ring with only 2,24
Kcal/mol activation energy. For S3, this transition state which has η3 hapticity implies
the neighbour carbon of the coordinated one S1 leading to a new equivalent form. The
repetition of this process induce an equivalence between all carbons of the ring and
only with 3,48 Kcal/mol activation barrier. These changes occur rapidly (fluxionality
phenomenon) and all carbons atoms are equivalently bound to the metal, however the
complex adopts the 5 hapticity.
