Art History II Journal Project THINK DEEPLY! You now hold the fundamental recipe for maximum success in this course. Complete the segments before the class session that includes the subject matter. This journal will help you think deeply about the subject matter. It will boost your learning about each chapter. You will do better on the tests and bonus quizzes. You will be prepared for class discussions. It should take 45 to 90 minutes to respond to all of the questions from each chapter section. Use no more than 30 words to respond to each question. Be succinct. Neatness and legibility counts. Use standard print or cursive handwriting or type your answers and cut and paste into the boxes provided on the pages. Abbreviate or use less than a sentence to complete the answer. I know the boxes are small! I want them small. I want very short answers. When you are asked for your opinion, think and respond for yourself! Have fun and think deeply! Your honest opinion can’t be wrong! I encourage you to talk with other students to share information and compare notes about your answers. While it is OK to “phone a friend”, do not, however, copy or plagiarize anyone else’s journal. When you are asked you to write your own questions, write your own. Don't rewrite any of mine! Use the study guide bookmarks to see what will be on the upcoming test and write questions about those topics or artists. Your participation, involvement, writing and effort will pay off with higher test scores and more benefits of a good education: security, empowerment and freedom. I will announce the segments that will be due for the next class by the end of each class session. I usually write it on the board and they follow the course outline. The spirit of the assignment is for the students to do the journal work before the chapter segment is experienced in class. The Journals are due at the beginning of each class, or – if you are late - when you arrive to the class. If you cannot attend class, you may email or arrange for a classmate, friend or relative to deliver the segments to me. Journal segments are considered late the end of the class period for which they are due. Journal Grade: I save journal results. At the end of the last chapter, your correct answers will form a percentage numeral grade for this project. Every answer counts about 1/3 of a point towards this journal project! For instance, if you were to miss 20 questions total for the whole semester, you would still earn about a 93%. There are about 289 questions, about 105 of which are the ones you will write – good deal for you, eh? You can do it! (Sorry for the “abouts”. I am revising and improving the journal and will give the final totals when I finish through to chapter 32. The new totals will be more or less 289. THINK DEEPLY!
