PROGRAM IMPROVEMENTS a) None b) The Music Faculty met during the 3rd week of Fall, 2007 to review the work of new students in music theory, basic musicianship (specifically) and other areas in general. Students experiencing difficulty were directed to discuss these issues with the chair, who then directed the students to individual faculty for assistance in mastering the material of problem classes. Faculty in music theory are meeting to a) establish minimal entrance standards in music theory and basic musicianship, b) more carefully assess background during the audition day exams and c) determine methodology to allow the weaker students to prepare prior to the start of Fall Quarter. 4. ASSESSMENT PLAN COMPLIANCE a) In compliance b) Music theory and basic musicianship are core competencies for success as a music major. Students who have trouble in these areas typically have difficulty overall as a music major. For this reason the Department of Music focused on music theory for 2006-07 assessment. 5. NEW ASSESSMENT DEVELOPMENTS a) none b) As cited above the faculty are actively working to raise standards, while at the same time providing assistance to students with weaker backgrounds 2
