Unit Plan Updates (APUs) and Program Reviews
To facilitate the colleges’ ability to prepare and document budget planning resource requests
and to better support the District in using the ACCJC rubric describing Proficiency Level of
Implementation with respect to Characteristics of Institutional Effectiveness in Student
Learning Outcomes (see attached), the District Academic Senate recently passed two
motions pertaining to the completion of Annual Unit Plan Updates (sometimes referred to as
Annual Program Updates) during Academic Year 2013-14. They are:
1. A Motion recommending that last year's Program Reviews be used instead of preparing
APUs, with updated contents if necessary.
2. A Motion recommending that the District Education Committee (DEC) assume the
responsibility of developing a template for Program Reviews and APUs that fully supports
integrating the use of student learning outcomes assessment results with institutional
planning and budget decisions.
