NZQA registered unit standard 29167 version 1 Page 1 of 2 Title Prepare horses for travel, and load and unload under close supervision Level 2 Credits 4 Purpose This unit standard is intended for people who are required to prepare horses for travel, while working under close supervision in an equine industry context. Classification Equine>Equine Care Available grade Achieved Explanatory notes 1 Demonstration of competency must be consistent with: Workplace procedures Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992 Code of Welfare: Horses and Donkeys available at http://www.mpi.govt.nz. 2 Loading and unloading practices must be consistent with the NZ Pony Club Manual 1, Revised and Updated by Kevin Lawrence BHSI; 2009. 3 Candidates must demonstrate competency in either a commercial horse enterprise or a recognised voluntary equine organisation, for example not-for-profit and/or therapeutic riding organisations. Outcomes and evidence requirements Outcome 1 Prepare horses for travel, load and unload under close supervision. Evidence requirements 1.1 Prepares horses for travel in a safe and efficient manner. Range 1.2 may include but is not limited to - fitting travel boots, tail bandage or tail protection, cover. Loads and unloads horses from either a truck or float with assistance as required safely and efficiently.
