Summary
The sea kayaking unit standards were originally the gazetted responsibility of Sport,
Fitness and Recreation Industry Training Organisation (now Skills Active Aotearoa
Limited). They were transferred to ATTTO at the request of the Sea Kayak Operators
Association of NZ (Inc) in 2003. The industry has now recognised that there is
considerable overlap of skills between sea kayaking and flat water kayaking and their
advice contributes to both disciplines, and approved the transfer of the standards back to
Skills Active Aotearoa Limited.
