Specialization in Environmental Risk Management and Decision Making (42-52)
This specialization is designed to prepare graduate students for careers in business/industry, integrating
geographic/environmental science knowledge with practical skills in decision making under uncertainty.
Students will be paired with an external collaborator in an applied science setting based upon their
interests, and will develop a program of study in consultation with their advisers and the external mentors.
All students will complete course work relating to decision making under uncertainty in management,
statistics, and computer science. A thesis involving the use or development of an environmental decision
tool is required.
Requirements for the M.S. in Geography (Thesis option only)
Students in the specialization will complete all requirements for the M.S. in Geography with thesis (30
hours), incorporating elective courses selected from the list below. Students will also complete 18-19
semester hours of course work inside and outside the department, focusing on analytical decision making.
