Group feedback
Making use of feedback is a key part of your academic development. Study the Examiner’s
comments in light of the following questions. If anything is unclear then please make an
appointment with the module convenor to discuss your feedback.
Argument: Have I produced an argument (i.e. an organised attempt to substantiate my position)?
Have I set out my piece in a clear way so that the reader can see what my argument is and how it
works? Do I respond to the assessment question or title? Do I maintain the focus and relevancy of
my discussion? Is my writing organised in a clear and logical way?
Originality: Have I developed an independent argument? Do I demonstrate an awareness of the
nuances and assumptions of the question or title? Have I read widely and beyond the core or
required readings? Have I used critical thinking to reflect and engage with the literature or sources?
Literature and sources: Have I engaged with enough writers to show that I understand the key
issues in the debate? Have I selected examples from appropriate sources? Do I use the references
that I cite to support my argument effectively? Do I accurately reference each source and produce a
properly detailed and formatted bibliography?
Presentation: Is my piece of writing clearly formatted for the reader? Do I use effective headings
where appropriate? Have I numbered my pages? Where I include illustrative materials, are my
diagrams, tables, and figures clear and effective?
Writing Skills: Have I demonstrated effective writing skills? Have I checked and corrected my spelling?
Are my sentences grammatically correct? Have I avoided overly long sentences, paragraphs and
quotations? Do I develop a fluent writing quality that engages the reader?
