What are we learning?
Daily Objective: Students will be introduced to a social issue and will read an article and watch videos over the neutral
side of the issue.

How will we learn it?
Learning Activities:
1. Do First: Explain the social issue
2. Read the neutral article on Paying Student Athletes
3. Take good notes on the neutral article
4. Watch various videos depicting the debate on paying student athletes
5. Discussion over the information
How will we tell if we’re learning it correctly?
Assessment Methods: Social Issues quiz, analytical timed writing
Checks for Understanding: Ask and answer questions as needed (on the social issues unit)

Materials: Just the fact WS and article

Daily Objective: The student will read a bias article over the pro side of the social issue.

2. Begin reading the pro argument
3. Take notes on the pro argument of the article
4. Discuss as a class the facts and opinions about the article

Daily Objective: The student will analyze and make complex inferences about a test. The student will take place in a
debate over the social issue. The student will use the knowledge of the articles and apply them to writing a resume.

How will we learn it?
Learning Activities:
1. Do Now: Pass out con article
2. Read and take notes on the con article (20 min)
3. Formulate your argument for your debate
4. Divide your class into two side: one side pro the other con and come up with your points of facts from both
articles to use as evidence to discredit the other side (20 min)
5. Participate in a formal debate of the topic (Paying student Athletes) (30)
6. Pass out guidelines if time permits
7. Use your knowledge from the debate and articles to write a resume

Daily Objective: The student use the knowledge from all articles and apply them to writing a written piece of the social
issue (resume).

1. Do Now: Go over guidelines for the resume, if you did not on the block day
2. Open up your laptop and download the template for a resume
3. Show the class an example of an resume
4. Begin writing your resume
5. Turn in your resume in the HUB.
