OVERVIEW OF THE PROCESS TO DETERMINE
CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT PROJECTS
AQIP requires the College to develop, implement and annually report on three to four
continuous improvement projects (Action Projects). The AQIP Steering Committee
decided to meet this requirement via projects and initiatives that are already underway or
are clearly on the immediate horizon.
The Process
To identify and prioritize current/impending initiatives and projects:
 Brainstorm a list of current/impending initiatives and projects. (See attached list
of 18. 5/19/05)
 Develop criteria and weight the criteria for ranking the list. (See attached
spreadsheet -- column headings are criteria and weights. 5/19/05)
 Rank each project or initiative according to the criteria. (See same spreadsheet.
5/19/05)
 Select the top six (after kicking out #11 as being part of assessment) projects and
initiatives. (See same spreadsheet. 5/19/05)
To apply current data and information sources to the six project areas is the data mining
process:
 Identify data and information sources and experts. (April - May 05)
 Develop descriptions of six project areas. (May 05)
 Get early input from experts regarding data and information support for six
project areas. (This is where we are now!) (June - July 05)
 Make adjustments to the project areas as needed. (Note that the six project areas
has been amended as of 6/6/05 due to input from experts on that date.)
To get input from the College community:
 Create a summary document of six project areas and data/information.
 Present for input to Staff and Faculty in August and September.
 Identify top four project areas.
 Develop specific projects with further input from data/information experts.
To develop specific continuous improvement projects (Action Projects):
 Establish Action Project teams.
 Plan Action Projects.
 Prepare for February 2006 Strategy Forum.
