Developmental And Readiness Education (DARE) Taskforce
Request for Proposals to Receive Clickers 2014-15
Mission: Developmental Education at De Anza College equitably allows students of every background
to take ownership of their education and to succeed in their educational goals by providing
the necessary integrated resources, services, and learning environment.
Clickers are audience response systems that allow every student in a class to
instantaneously answer a question or provide the instructor with feedback. Studies have
found that, when properly applied, clickers can help increase student engagement,
boost attendance and retention, identify “at-risk” students, enhance learning, and reduce
the achievement gap (see e.g. Haak 2011 Science v.332 n.6034 p.1213-1216). DARE is
requesting proposals from instructors interested in experimenting with clicker use at De
Anza. Successful applicants will receive a class set of iClicker2’s
(http://www.iclicker.com/Products/iclicker2/) and a receiver. The instructor will be
responsible for maintaining the clickers and returning them to DARE when no longer in
use. After two quarters (not including summer), the instructor will provide a brief report
to DARE on how the clickers have been used, and will be eligible to reapply to keep the
clickers for additional time if desired. Please provide complete responses to the questions
below. Additional information maybe required prior or after approval. Submit completed
form to Rowena Tomaneng (tomanengrowena@fhda.edu) and Jennifer Myhre
(myhrejennifer@deanza.edu), with copies to your chair/program coordinator and Dean.
