Position Description - Coordinator, RadonPage 2
1. Summary Statement: State the major function(s) of the position and its role in the
university. Attach an organizational chart with positions, ranges, and names for the division
which reflects the position in it as well as those supervised in the department. (This section is
used for advertisement of the position.)
The Coordinator, Radon Education Program, coordinates and assists in daily activities in the Radon
Program for all participating County Educators and the Project Director. The Coordinator is
responsible for assisting County Educators, specifically in Western Area Zone 1 counties (Washoe,
Storey, Douglas, Incline Village, Elko), in adult and youth education programs to address radon risk.
Activities include providing programming and media assistance, as well as presentations to the
general public and civic groups on radon testing and mitigation; conducting seminars to builders and
realtors; and responding to citizen radon inquiries. The Coordinator is responsible for assisting in the
collection of test and program data and outreach reports for the quarterly reports and newsletters;
assisting with radon testing database entry; and assisting in development of programming materials,
marketing supplies and other innovative ideas for the Radon Program. Measurement and mitigation
training and certification will be pursued and accomplished. The Coordinator reports directly to the
Project Director and in his/her absence acts as the Director.

45% - Radon Education
 Work with the Project Director, Statewide Indoor Radon Education program and the Nevada
State Health Division to create and distribute educational materials which promote radon
education
 Discuss and determine target groups
 Prepare materials needed to educate the public, housing industry and real estate target
groups
 Build partnerships with interested building industry and real estate groups
25% - Promote Indoor Radon Testing and Mitigation
 Conduct general presentations to the public
 Utilize media and all other possible promotion opportunities to encourage testing and
mitigation
 Create a certified mitigation and measurement list and establish contact with local mitigators
 Provide test kits to targeted groups
15% - Develop database and Website to Highlight Radon Information Throughout Nevada
 Work with University of Nevada Cooperative Extension (UNCE) to develop, create and
maintain a website providing updates to be posted regularly
 Compile and maintain all test kit, distribution and radon test results data into database.
 Make information on radon risk numbers available to the public
5% - Project updates and evaluation of programs and test kit distribution compiled in quarterly
reports
 Update activity reports
 Provide training, measurement and mitigation educational information

3. Describe the level of freedom to take action and make decisions with or without
supervision and how the results of the work performed impact the department, division and/or
the university as a whole.
This position functions under limited supervision and is expected to exercise discretion and
considerable latitude for initiative and independent judgment when making decisions. The position
assists in developing and implementing educational programs pertaining to radon education
throughout the state of Nevada. This means promoting and encouraging radon testing and education
to the general public by responding to inquiries (daily office by phone, email and face-to-face) with
continued response to different programs and community groups. The University and UNCE will be
viewed as effective, high-functioning organizations that address important issues which will result in
increased funding and/or political support. If done poorly the image of those public entities would
suffer.

Nevada Sate Health Division - to create and distribute educational materials promoting radon
education
