1. Summary Statement: State the major function(s) of the position and its role in the
university. Attach an organizational chart with positions, ranges, and names for the division
which reflects the position in it as well as those supervised in the department. (This section is
used for advertisement of the position.)
Reporting to the Director of Admissions, the Associate Director assists with comprehensive market
analyses and cutting edge recruitment plans that will maximize enrollment growth of high caliber
undergraduate students who are of diverse backgrounds and experience.
This position serves as the primary liaison to the college deans and recruitment and retention
coordinators. This position is responsible for assessing innovative recruitment strategies that will
result in increased university undergraduate enrollment of freshmen and transfer students from
diverse ethnic, socio-economic, and academic backgrounds and experience.
2. List the major responsibilities, including percentage of time devoted to each. Provide

80% - Campus Based Recruitment Events and Recruitment of Top Scholars
 Develops and implements cutting edge recruitment strategies that will attract the best and the
brightest to Nevada; including the recruitment of National Merit students.
 Coordinates with the colleges all activities from initial contact through advisement and
enrollment of these top students
 Supervises campus visit programs including campus tours and Student Ambassador programs
 Plans, promotes, and participates in one-day visits to campus by prospective students and
School Counselors. Collaborates with on-campus faculty and staff to coordinate a successful
campus visit. Follows up with trip participants regarding application to and enrollment at the
University
 Works closely with the university’s TRIO and Upward Bound Programs and other K-12
initiatives designed to improve Nevada’s college participation rate.
 Supervises special summer events designed to increase diversity of the freshmen applicant
pool
 Coordinates the new freshmen advising and registration program each Spring in Reno, Las
Vegas and other locations
 Works cooperatively with the Center for Student Cultural Diversity in bringing first generation
and low income middle school students to campus
 Works cooperatively with the Center for Student Cultural Diversity to Initiate, develop and
implement programs designed to increase the enrollment of underrepresented students
 Coordinates recruitment efforts with the university’s recruitment office in northern and eastern
Nevada
20% - Market Analysis and Recruitment
 Assists the Director with market segment analyses utilizing statistical modeling probability as a
means of maximizing enrollment yield from eligible markets; develops strategies to maximize
enrollment yield from application and admit activity
 Provides direct service to clients as well as training the staff to counsel and advise prospective
students and their parents through all stages of the admission cycle: inquiry, application,
admission and registration
 Answers inquiries, collects completed applications, conducts preliminary evaluation of
applicant admissibility, makes admission recommendations, and when necessary, provides
students with alternative admission’s options

Anticipates and resolves complex problems relating to admission, financial aid, scholarship
opportunities, and housing
Guides students and parents through the steps, procedures and policies required to reach the
enrolled student stage
Initiates and maintains contact with prospective students and their parents through one-on-one
appointments, email, phone calls and direct mail
3. Describe the level of freedom to take action and make decisions with or without
supervision and how the results of the work performed impact the department, division and/or
the university as a whole.
Increasing the college participation rate and growing enrollment is the university’s top priority. This
position directly impacts the university’s budget as well as the growth and expansion of its academic
programs.
Increasing the number of top students as well as students from ethnic and geographically diverse
backgrounds is the number one recruitment priority for the university. This position is critical for the
continued growth of the university and increasing the quality and diversity of the university’s student
body. This position has a significant impact on the quality and diversity of each incoming class.
The position also directly influences how community leaders, prospective student and their parents;
high school and community college personnel perceive the university. The public perception of the
university as a whole is directly impacted and magnified by the actions and professionalism of the
Associate Director of Admissions.

 Recruitment/marketing analysis including knowledge of statistical modeling methodologies.

Explain the nature and purpose of these contacts: i.e., to provide services, to resolve

Internal:
Director of Admissions, Associate Vice President of Enrollment Services and Vice President of
Student Services, Provost and President-Accountable for assigned functions, advises and informs
of trends and activities in southern Nevada, resolves problems and serves as staff support.
Prospective students and parents- Counsel, advise, provide information and services, respond to
inquiries, and resolve problems to enable students to achieve their educational objectives.
Secondary school and community college counselors, teachers, and administrators- Provide
information and services regarding admissions, special programs and events, schedule visits, resolve
problems, initiate and respond to requests for recruitment and financial aid presentations.
Academic Deans and representatives- Collaborate with, to coordinate special events geared toward
recruitment, advisement and orientation; support and promote academic representatives recruitment
activities conducted in southern Nevada aimed at increasing enrollment of individual colleges.
Faculty and staff- Provide training necessary to accomplish enrollment goals
External:
Community contacts- Provide information, services, help organize and promote community
organizations events and activities geared toward promoting access to higher education for
prospective students. Participates in Community Leaders’ Organizations.
