1. Summary Statement: State the major function(s) of the position and its role in the
university. Attach an organizational chart with positions, ranges, and names for the division
which reflects the position in it as well as those supervised in the department. (This section is

The Assistant Manager, Athletic Equipment, assists the Director of Equipment and Inventory Control
with all areas of the Intercollegiate Athletics (ICA) equipment room to include the forecasting of
equipment needs, allocation, procurement and receipt, maintenance, repair, replacement, and proper
handling and safe keeping of equipment assets, inventory for all ICA sponsored sports and all safety
aspects of player equipment. The incumbent assists the director with visiting football teams to
coordinate pre-game and game-day activities. The Assistant Manager assists in the supervision of all
equipment room temporary staff and student workers. The incumbent attends all football home
games, is required to travel evening and weekends extensively, and travels with the football team to
away sites to insure proper preparation of competition gear and game set up. The position reports to
the Director of Equipment and Inventory Control.

75% - Equipment Inventory Administration
 Help maintain accurate fixed asset and sensitive equipment inventory lists for ICA using an
electronic inventory system and annually presents a complete listing of all inventory by team to
supervisor(s) and Director of ICA
 Assist supervisor in an annual equipment audit and verification of assigned
teams
 Verify receipt and provide appropriate accounting for all sports equipment received
 Ensure safety protocol has been followed including equipment maintenance, proper fitting, and
routine testing per manufacturer’s specifications
 Maintain and account for other non-disposable inventory such as field markers, down and
distance markers, sleds, cones, sports balls, nets, etc.
 Follow all equipment room operations policy and procedures and asset auditing
 Help with the equipment needs of assigned sports
 Coordinate between athletes, coaches, and athletic trainers as to quantity and quality of, and
ensure appropriate fit of athletes’ sports protective equipment in addition to regular uniforms
 Maintain equipment throughout the season through regular testing, address
equipment repair and defects with the appropriate manufacturer. Coordinate
all testing of equipment required by coaches and/or manufacturers
 Perform end of season equipment procedures (inventory, maintenance
storage)
 Work closely with Sports Medicine staff, Strength and Conditioning Staff, and the Video
Department Staff to coordinate team instruction and safety
 Ensure compliance with NCAA, Conference, and university rules and regulations (subject to
disciplinary or corrective action as set forth in the provisions of the NCAA enforcement
procedures)
 Supervise and participate in fitting athletes in all sports with appropriate equipment and
protective gear

15% - Travel and Facility Support
 Provide support for pre-season football camp by organizing meals, housing, meeting
schedules, itineraries, field arrangements, meeting rooms, team retreats and post-season
activities
 Assist coaches with all equipment needs and supervise setup of all practice and Game
Day needed equipment for the assigned teams per National Collegiate Athletic
Association (NCAA) and conference regulations
 Coordinate or supervise coordination of laundry services for all home and away games for
assigned sport with home and visiting teams
 Help manage transportation (ground and air) of football equipment and
ancillary supplies and equipment for away games
 Assist director in accommodating visiting team to schedule “day prior to contest” practices and
Game Day activities
 Secure stadium, practice fields, and field house at the conclusion of each practice and game
 Oversee facility maintenance needs on a -day-to-day basis with supervisor and submit work
order requests to Buildings and Grounds for repair to these athletic facilities: Cashell
Fieldhouse, Mackay Stadium, and Wolf Pack Park
 Coordinate practice site set-up and team functions
 Travel with football team to assist with equipment needs and operation and travel with other
sports on an as needed or instructed basis to assist with supervision of equipment needs
5% - Staff Management
 Help to train, assign work, supervise and evaluate student workers in duties and
responsibilities pertaining to equipment needs, safety, and uses
5% - Athletic Events
 Attend athletic events to promote audience participation and support for University of Nevada’s
team efforts
3. Describe the level of freedom to take action and make decisions with or without
supervision and how the results of the work performed impact the department, division and/or
the university as a whole.
Level of Freedom:
The Assistant Manager, in consultation with coaches and the Director of Equipment and Inventory
Control, assists in all areas of the equipment room, including serving at times as the contact for
athletic equipment vendors. The assistant also helps maintain football equipment inventory and some
facility maintenance and planning and coordinating all equipment needs for home and visiting teams
and as required by Conference and NCAA regulations. The incumbent makes decisions regarding the
usability and quality of equipment. With limited supervision and reporting, the Assistant Manager
solves time critical problems. While the equipment room falls under the guidance of the
administration and the Director of Equipment and Inventory Control, the Assistant Manager handles
many of the day-to-day functions of the unit. The incumbent consults with the supervisor and
administration on creating policies and procedures as well as issues regarding the impact of the
equipment room and the whole department.
Impact:
The work of this position is very visible to the public and therefore has an impact on the perception of
the University and its reputation. Proper planning and coordination from arrival to departure of visiting
teams is very important to the public relations aspect of ICA and UNR. Proper and accurate inventory

of assets is critical to ICA’s fiscal integrity. Inadequate performance may result in inefficiencies in the
administration of athletic programs. The department and university benefit by having individuals who
represent the university and ICA in a positive way and achieve the best value "for dollars spent".
Failure to perform duties could result in delays, cancellation, or forfeiture of athletic contests. Failure
to adhere to NCAA and conference rules and regulations is cause for university ineligibility in sports
programs.
