o His office is located at 240 Stubbs
o Pre-Law Curriculum
o The law school has discouraged a pre-law curriculum
 He believes this is partially good and partially bad
 Interesting fact: Most law that people practice concern
money and selling and things of that sort
o So, there are things that could fit into a law
curriculum at the undergraduate level
 For example, a chemistry major works well
for patent law
 But, the good news is that you can
study a field of your own interest
o The dominant fields for law
school are history and
political science
o Law School
o Is a rigorous study
o How do you apply to law school?
 Don’t worry about it till the spring of your junior year
 Keep in mind that the LSAT is offered in June, September,
December, and February
 Should you prepare for the exam? Yes.
o
o
o
o
o
Most popular courses to prepare: Kaplan and The
Princeton Review.
o Or, you could practice on your own by purchasing
an LSAT book.
 It is a timed test; they don’t count the
wrong answers
 The questions on the test are standard
 Also want to sign up for the LSDAS
o Send in your transcript and personal statement to
them
 They will put it into a standardized format
 LSU actually discloses its index
 In regards to your extracurricular
activities: they want to see
continued involvement
 In regards to your personal
statement: they want to know
what cannot be seen on the
transcript
 Law schools generally have 3 piles: the first is for
those files that are automatically accepted into that
law school, the next pile is those files that are “ok”
but they need to read over all the materials, and the
third and last pile is the rejection pile
o Generally people go to law school in places that they would like to practice
in the near future
 Example: if you are from Louisiana and want to practice in Louisiana
consider Louisiana law schools (LSU, Southern, Tulane, and Loyola).
Law is a classic profession where bright people can set themselves up and make a
real contribution to society.
He gave an example about a lawyer that just got hired to a firm and can speak
Spanish fluently
o Knowing a different language other than English may help you out in the
long run
How to find out about law schools? Fairs held at schools
o There will be a fair at a school in Texas sometime this month
LSAC
o Is a creature of the law schools
o The problem is they work for the law schools
