Lesson H.3A.4
H.3A.4: Given a quadratic function, interpret, and analyze the relationship between
independent and dependent variables, and evaluate the function for specific values of the
domain.
Learning Target:
 Students will be able to use function notation to evaluate quadratic equations for a
given value.
 To understand the difference between independent and dependent variables
Warm-up: Identify independent and dependent variables from a word problem. The total
cost, c, of buying DVD’s and the number of DVD’s you’ve bought.
The amount of gas needed to drive a given distance.
Teach:
 Identify the independent and dependent variable. For example, throwing a ball with
regards to time and height from the ground.
 Evaluate quadratics for a specific value. For example, where is the ball after 5
seconds?
Active Engagement:
 Take notes
 Plug and chug with white boards using f(x) notation and various quadratic equations
( this could include a class competition or individual work)
Assignments:
 H.3A.4 Guided Practice Bowlegged Cowboy Worksheet
 H.3A.4 Guided Practice 2 Indian and the Bucket Worksheet
