The eLearning Academy has helped faculty with instructional design for online teaching. The university has traditional and non-‐traditional students; multi-‐generation and first generation students; and students from affluent and non-‐affluent families. Students cannot be taught using the same approach since they have different ways to perceive and learn. Technology can help us address students with different needs. Provost Li stated that affordable learning solutions are extremely important to the campus community to help students lessen their financial burden. Faculty, in conjunction with Laurie Borchard, are working towards the development of CSU affordable learning solution initiatives. Provost Li thanked the ATC committee for their work. He added that he has attended college Administrative Council meetings, along with Vice President Baker and Deone Zell, to obtain feedback. A few of the items mentioned have been requests for technology support for weekend courses, technology to prevent online cheating, and more information about captioning. Diane Stephens is working to develop a captioning site where faculty can find policies, services and qualified vendors. Krantz inquired whether Provost Li would support the submission of the professional RTP files electronically. Provost Yi shared that an appropriate platform would need to be adopted from the faculty side, noting that it would need to align with CSUN’s Section 600. The CSU is currently evaluating Learning Platform Systems options. We will decide as a campus on the best platform. Fahmie shared the challenges that she has been facing in relation to technology and timing of requests for special accommodations from individual students. Sales stated that it is completely voluntary for students to identify themselves. Provost Li stated that he will go back and conduct further research on this student privacy matter. Sales stated that many students do not have the materials needed at the beginning of the semester due to delayed financial aid disbursements. Sales inquired on whether financial aid can be disbursed directly to the Matador Bookstore to allow students to purchase their books on time. Provost Li asked Ben Quillian to follow up with the Financial Aid department. One option could allow students to authorize the use of financial aid funds once they register for a class. Meeting adjourned at 2:57pm
