Forecasting future of CIOs by review of CIO role evolution
Abstract
Information technology is playing a vital role in business environment nowadays. Highly competitive
environment of business made every organization to look for gaining advantages, which guarantee their
survival in this situation. Hence, Chief Information Officer (CIO) has been entrusted to manage IT
infrastructure and to lead organizations to success. However, this role faced with many changes and
challenges. In this paper, we looked at these changes historically and categorized the roles and skills
required by them. Finally, we propose and forecast the future for them according to the past changes.
