Although the farmers market season is coming to a close, there are a few
special events at local markets this month.


Cheverly Community Market is hosting a special Holiday market on Dec 13, 
8am to 1pm, that will include local food, trees and other holiday decorations
and a wine tasting by Romano Vineyard & Winery of Prince George's

Greenbelt Farmers Market is hosting a Holiday Market on Dec 7, 10am - 2pm.
In addition to an assortment of local produce and meats, enjoy a wine
tasting, seasonal decorations, locally-made prepared foods, music by the
Eleanor Roosevelt High School Clarinet Choir and a chef demo by Cole

Van Wagoner's sculptural work captures moments in a narrative and
expresses them as artifacts. In this series of current works made from steel,
cast aluminum, cast iron, blown glass, clay, and other materials, the

Food Tank, in partnership with The
George Washington (GW)
University, is excited to announce
the 1st Annual Food Tank Summit at
the Jack Morton Auditorium (former
home of CNN's Crossfire)! This twoday event will feature more than 75
different speakers from the food
and agriculture field. Researchers,
farmers, chefs, policy makers,
government officials, and students
will come together for panels on
topics including; food waste, urban
agriculture, family farmers, farm

Beekeeping 101
Jan 24, 2015
Mike Embrey, UME Apiculturist, is
offering his beginner beekeeping
class again starting January 24,
2015. Each class is held on Saturday
at the Wye Research and
Education Center.
There will be seven classes total,
five in the winter/spring and two in

Prince George's County Farm Bureau
Annual Meeting
Members of the Prince George's County Farm
Bureau (PGCFB) gathered at the Baden
Firehouse in Brandywine, MD on the eve of
November 20 to learn about local and state
initiatives and legislation affecting Prince
George's County farmers. In addition, members
heard about how local organizations used
PGCFB grant funds to enhance their agricultural education projects in the
County. Representatives from the University of Maryland Extension, Alice
Ferguson Foundation, Southern Maryland Farmers and Hunters Feeding the
Hungry and the Environmental Studies Academy at the William S. Schmidt
Center, Prince George's County Public Schools gave an update on their work
as well as goals for the upcoming year.
You don't have to farm to become a PGCFB member and enjoy the benefits
and fellowship. It's a great way to support agriculture in Prince George's

Farm tours through the holiday season, Saturdays, at 11 am, or by
appointment. Tours are a true learning experience in holistic pasture and
livestock management. You will see the dairy operation, learn about cheese
making and visit pigs, chickens and cows. The tours are a minimum of one
