Strategy: Anchored Instruction
Appropriate Grade Level: Kindergarten – 12th grade
Procedures/Steps:
Used in science to learn new vocabulary and adding to prior knowledge by
introducing vocabulary through video clips.
Decide on science theme and vocabulary words
Find movie that includes vocabulary and theme
Pick out clips that use the vocabulary
Discuss vocabulary word one at a time, after each word, show clip and
discuss more encouraging the students to put a picture to the words
Comments and/or tips:
Teachers need to plan ahead
Need to have a computer, TV screen, and projector
Set up clips ahead of time and in order of being introduced
