SCHOOL – PARENT - STUDENT COMPACT
The Energy Institute High School, the students and the parents of the students participating in activities, services, and
programs funded by Title I, Part A of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA), agree that this compact
outlines how the parents, the entire school staff, and the students will share the responsibility for improved student
academic achievement and the means by which the school and parents will build and develop a partnership that will
help children achieve the State’s high standards.
This school-parent compact is in effect during school year 2015-16.
REQUIRED SCHOOL-PARENT COMPACT PROVISIONS
School Responsibilities
Energy Institute High School will:
1. Provide high-quality curriculum and instruction in a supportive and effective learning environment that
enables the participating children to meet the State’s student academic achievement standards as follows:
• Encourage and support students’ learning, in a unique non-traditional learning environment.
• Believe that each student can learn.
• Incorporate curriculum that is rich with technology and project based learning.
• Maintain and foster high standards of academic achievement and positive behavior.
• Respectfully and accurately inform parents of their child’s progress.
• Have high expectations for students and be committed to continuous growth for the teacher, staff, and
the school.
• Respect cultural differences of students, their families and other staff members.
• Coordinate efforts with other staff to support the success of each child that is aligned to the mission and
vision of the school.
• Create a caring, inclusive, stimulating, and safe/classroom setting.

Hold parent-teacher conferences during which this compact will be discussed as it relates to the individual
child’s achievement. Specifically, those conferences will be held:
• Conferences can be arranged at a mutually agreed upon time with the teacher, teacher cohort teams and
parent/guardian.
3. Provide parents reasonable access to staff. Specifically, staff will be available for consultation with parents
as follows:
• Call Energy Institute HS at 713-802-4620.
• Contact staff, staff emails can be found on our website, www.energyhigh.org
• Access to teacher communication by way of HISD’s digital platform, the HUB.
4. Provide parents with frequent reports on their children’s progress. Specifically, the school will provide
reports as follows:
• Electronic Parent Connect maintained on a regular basis, providing parents with access to students’
grades and attendance information.
• Grade reports are distributed to parents/guardians at the end of each marking period.
• Access the HUB, (have your child log in for you).

5. Provide parents opportunities to volunteer as follows:
• Parents may volunteer to help with clerical work, field experiences, classroom activities, PTO, etc.
• Also, school events, exhibitions, PBL expert panels, etc.
Parent Responsibilities
We, as parents, will support our children’s learning in the following ways:

Monitoring attendance.
Making sure that homework is completed.
Monitoring amount of television or web surfing my children do.
Volunteering in my child’s school.
Participating, as appropriate, in decisions relating to my children’s education.
Supporting the mission and vision of the school by understanding basic PBL concepts and use of students
laptops for learning.
Promoting positive use of my child’s extracurricular time.
Staying informed about my child’s education and communicating with the school by promptly reading all
notices from the school or the school district either received by my child or by mail and responding, as
appropriate.
Serving, to the extent possible, on policy advisory groups, such as being the Title I, Part A parent
representative on the school’s School Improvement Team, the Title I Policy Advisory Committee, the District
wide Policy Advisory Council or other school advisory or policy groups.
Student Responsibilities at the high school level.
We, as students, will share the responsibility to improve our academic achievement and achieve the State’s high
standards. Specifically, we will:

Attend school every day.
Do my homework every day and ask for help when I need it.
Study for all major exams and quizzes.
Complete my classwork every day in class.
Be an active participant in school or classroom projects.

Give to my parents or guardian all notices and information received by me from my school.
