ECO NEWS
ECO Shout Out!
On February 5th, St.Dominic bundled up to
celebrate National Sweater Day. Turning
down the heat and dressing in our cozy
sweaters reminded us of the importance of
energy conservation. A big thank you goes to
those families who donated their lightly used
sweaters!
To celebrate World Water Day, St.Dominic will be
participating in the “Great Gulp” on March 13th. To
emphasize the importance of conserving and managing
our fresh water resources, the entire school will take
part in a giant synchronized gulp
of tap water! In support of our
“Water Bottle Free” campaign,
we encourage all students to bring
in a reusable water bottle. That
way, students may top up their
reusable bottles with fresh water
from our school fountain!
Cheers!
Earth Rangers is
coming to
St. Dominic!
On Thursday March 5th,
Earth Rangers will be
“Bringing Back the Wild”. The
students will enjoy a
presentation around the topic
of biodiversity, empowering
them to take action through
this unique program.
AT-HOME ECO ACTIVITY: Winter Bird Feeders
As the temperature continues to drop, its time we share with those around us including our feathered friends living outside our homes and in our neighbourhood.
Bad weather and extremely cold temperatures can make it difficult for wildlife to
find food, not to mention the toll it takes on their bodies. Providing high-quality
food during winter, such as nuts, can help them survive this season!
If you try this activity with your family, we kindly ask you to share a picture
with us. All participants will be entered to win a prize and will be featured on our
ECO wall.
You will need:
- 1 ice cream cone
- Peanut butter
- Variety of nuts (pumpkin seeds, sesame seeds, peanuts,
cranberries, etc.)
- String to hang your feeder.
March is NATIONAL
NUTRITION MONTH!
For the Month of March, St. Dominic will
promote and celebrate healthy eating. So
continue to bring in your fruits and veggies
and crunch into a nutritious snack!
BATTERY BUSTER
CHALLENGE
St.Dominic is now safely recycling dead batteries!
We are challenging you to collect dead batteries
from home and dispose of them properly using the
designated bin located outside of room 101. By
participating in this challenge, we hope to reduce
the amount of batteries found in our landfills,
eliminating the hazardous effects this pollution
has on our environment!
