EASTER PRAYER
God our Father,
by raising Christ your Son
you conquered the power of death
and opened for us the way to eternal life.
Let the Easter celebration raise us up and renew our
lives by the Spirit that is within us.
Grant this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

E.Q.A.O.
This year’s E.Q.A.O. assessments for grades 3 and 6
students will take place between May 25 and June 5.
Attendance at school is very important during E.Q.A.O.
testing. Therefore, parents / guardians are asked, if at all
possible, to avoid arranging appointments or vacations
during this time. More information regarding
the
assessment dates will follow. Parents
may vsit the EQAO website at
www.eqao.com for many resources
and useful information regarding
EQAO, including sample tests from
previous years.
SACRAMENT OF CONFIRMATION AND FIRST
EUCHARIST
The Sacrament of Confirmation will be celebrated on
Thursday, April 23 at St. Leonard Parish Church starting
at 7:00 P.M. Our grade 2 students will receive First
Communion @ St. Leonard’s church on Saturday, May 23
at 9:00 a.m.
On behalf of the staff we hope everyone has a very happy and
blessed Easter. There is, of course, no school on Good
Friday, April 10 and Easter Monday, April 13.
FOOD DRIVE
Mrs. Morton, Mrs. Farronato & Mrs. Harmer, with the help of
their students, have been organizing a food drive during Lent.
Thank you for your generosity in contributing to this cause and
for directly helping those who are suffering in these tough,
financial times.
HOLY WEEK
On Thursday, April 9, at 9:00 a.m., there will be a Stations
of the Cross liturgy in our school gym.
Thank you to Mrs. Fonzo, Mrs. Mota, and Ms. Stephenson
for organizing the liturgy. Thank you also to staff for
preparing their students for their spiritual journey during
the season of Lent.
CATHOLIC SCHOOL COUNCIL MEETING
Our next School Council meeting will be on Tuesday, April
21 at 7:00 p.m. in the library.
CATHOLIC EDUCATION WEEK
Catholic Education Week is fast approaching. This year it
takes place from May 3-8. The theme is “Good News For
All”. Our School Council is arranging a Spring Fling
fundraiser for Monday, May 4. They will be sending
further details shortly.
TALENT SHOW
Mrs. Allen & Mrs. Bonsignore, with
the help of Mrs. Greyerbiehl and Mr.
Tyldsley, have been working hard
with many enthusiastic & gifted
students to put together a Talent
Show which will take place in the
coming weeks – the tentative date
for the show is Thursday, May 14 at 6:30 p.m. More
information will follow.
DANCE COMPETITION
12 of our students, under the tutelage of Mrs. Mauro and
Mrs. Nomura, have been working hard on a ballet/jazz
dance routine for most of the school year. They will be
taking part in a dance competition to be held at the Rose
Theatre on Monday, April 27. School Council have
generously offered to pay for half the cost of their
costumes. We will be having a spirit day to help raise
money for the remainder of the cost of the costumes. We
wish the girls luck and thank Mrs. Mauro and Mrs. Nomura
for their time and expertise. Our talented dancers include:
Samantha S., Alessia F., Lauren B., Cassandra S., Michaela
G., Laura C., Lexi M., Kristin F., Natalie B., Victoria B.,
Christina C., Haleigh M.
LEAVING SCHOOL PROPERTY AT LUNCH TIME
During the lunch hour, all students, who stay for lunch and
those who go home for lunch, are expected to follow the
same routine every day, except under unusual
circumstances. Consistency in this routine will help to
ensure the safety of students. If there is a change in the
routine, parents are asked to send the teacher a dated and
signed note explaining the change.
VALUABLES & PEDS
Students are requested not to bring valuables, items of
importance or money to school. The use of Personal
Electronic Devices (PEDS) are not permitted on school
property. PEDS include cell phones, iPods, MP3 players,
cameras etc. On the first occasion that a student is found
using a PED on school property, the item will be
confiscated and sent home with the student after school. In
subsequent cases, the item will be confiscated and a
parent/guardian will be called to collect it. The school
cannot assume responsibility for valuables brought to
school.
MOVING?
We are in the process of planning staffing and organizing
classes for the 2009/10 school year. If you are planning on
moving out of the Sacred Heart School area, or simply
changing an address within our boundaries, please let the
office know as soon as possible. Families with students
who live outside our school area are reminded they must
apply through the Flex Boundary Policy to the principal
for permission to attend the school in September 2009.
If there are any special learning needs your child has that
you feel we should know when making up classes, please
do so in writing to Mrs. Clark by Thursday, April 30. All
staff work hard to balance class lists by abilities, gender
and learning style. Please bear in mind that combined
classes are likely in some grades.
SACRED HEART WEBSITE
Mrs. Light and Mrs. Fonzo work on the Sacred Heart
School website. You can find our newsletter online as well
as other information relating to the school.
