READING:
Our texts this week focused on figurative language. The students are working on how to determine the
meaning of literal and nonliteral words and phrases to enhance their understanding of fictional texts.
They are also creating their own figurative language book, which includes similes, metaphors, alliteration,
onomatopoeia, personification, and idioms.
We have started reading Charlotte’s Web, which is a children’s novel about the true meaning
of friendship. As a culminating event upon completing this book, third grade students will be
having their own County Fair! More information will come as the date approaches.
MATH:
Area models help students see why the same shaded area of a shape can be called many different
fraction names depending on how many equal parts fill the whole. For example, 1/4 and 2/8 can refer to
the same shaded area, so they are equivalent fractions.
Ideas for Home :
When cooking, use measuring cups and spoons to review equivalency. 1/2 cup is equivalent to 2/4 cup.
SOCIAL STUDIES:
We are creating personal times lines of our third grade year. We have reflected on some
important and memorable activities we have participated in this school year.
