Reading –Literary Nonfiction- Are You a Butterfly- recognized author’s
purpose and point of view; identified important information and details;
made personal connections; Atlantic- asked questions (who, what, why);
Living and Nonliving- explored table of contents and drew examples of each
using captions and labels; Grow Your Own Sandwich – found meanings of
unknown words using captions, labels, context, or glossary
Writing – Personal Narrative- used rubrics to edit and evaluate writing;
ideas and organization (topics, details, beginning, middle, end) and
conventions (capitalization, end marks, spelling); writing with different
voices using dialogue and quotation marks; practiced paragraph writing
including an opening sentence, at least three detail sentences, and a closing
sentence
Math – Module 7 – identified and applied addition strategies (count on,
doubles, make ten); story problems; Module 8 – identified parts and total of
number sentences; related addition and subtraction, fact families
Science- Matter- found examples of each state of matter, wrote
definitions, played a concentration match game, and sang a song
Social Studies –used a picture book biography, The Boy Who Loved Books
(literary nonfiction example), a poem, a crossword puzzle, a song, and used
Pebble Go to research facts about Abraham Lincoln; used a venn diagram and
time line to compare George and Abe; explored past, present and future
using Mr. Bob’s transportation timeline and Lake Zurich Long Ago booklet
