Say It Loud and Proud
Providence!
Our Lady of Providence
Students participated in a Door
Decorating Campaign during
’Bullying Awareness and
Prevention’ Week, Nov. 16-20.
Students enjoyed creatively
displaying a message for all to

Prayer for the Month of Remembering!
O Heavenly Father,
Your Beloved Son Jesus told us that He would
‘go and prepare a place’ for us.
May our prayers and those of the entire ‘Our Lady of
Providence’ community
Prepare a place for loved ones who have gone before us.
May we some day be united with them
And with Him in that place prepared for us.
We ask You through Jesus, Your Son and our Brother.
AMEN.
MONTH OF REMEMBERING:
DRESSING FOR WINTER WEATHER:
November begins with a double feast in
Remembrance of those who have died.
The Saints – people whom God has
‘harvested’ into heaven– are
remembered on November 1st, All
Saints Day.
While we have been blessed with unusually
moderate Fall weather, we can expect this to change
at any time.
Many members of our own families have died. We
pray for them on November 2nd, All Souls Day.
All through this month, we will offer prayers to
remember the dead and to thank God for the
harvest. We will also ask God to provide enough
for the poor, the hungry, the homeless and the
jobless.
We will also remember all those who have served,
through the years of our history, in the defense of
our country, in Canada and in distant lands. It is
only through their bravery, dauntless Spirit and
supreme sacrifice, that we are able to live in
freedom and security.
REMEMBRANCE DAY OBSERVANCE:
On W ednesday, November 11, 2015 at 10:45 am,
the students and staff commemorated
Remembrance Day and celebrated peace. Students
received a poppy for a donation on that day!
Students from Mrs. Hidden, Ms Christensen, Ms
Calaminici, Mrs. Larocque and Mrs. Pergjoni’s
Please assist us in encouraging the children to dress
adequately for this weather. When on supervision,
teachers are checking, not only on the activities /
games children play, but also noting that they are
wearing boots, hats, gloves and scarves when
necessary. Except when the weather is extremely cold
or wet, the students will be going outside during the
recess and lunch periods. Playing outdoors is a
pleasant & healthy activity when students wear
suitable clothing.
For the younger students, it would be helpful if
parents were to label items of clothing with their
child’s name, so that each person can locate his/her
own clothing from the class coat rack area.
Each term, items make their way to the Lost and
Found and are never claimed.
Labelled items can be returned more easily and mixed
up items sorted out more readily.
If your child brings home an item by mistake, please
return it to the school so that this mix up may be sent
to the correct person!
BOOK FAIR!:
Our Lady of Providence Library Resource Center
hosted a SCHOLASTIC Book Fair during the
following dates: November 16—20, 2015 (school

We hope you will visit our
Book Fair! All funds raised
will assist us in purchasing
more books for the library.
PROFESSIONAL ACTIVITY DAYS:
For your information the following dates are the P.A.
Days for the rest of the year:
Monday, January 18, 2016
Friday, February 5, 2016
Friday, May 13, 2016
Monday, June 13, 2016
Reminders will be sent home as the days approach.
INDOOR SHOES:
WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF HOMEWORK?:
Soon we will begin to experience wet and slushy
weather.
Homework gives your child a
chance to practice what he/she
has learned in school. It is not
supposed to teach new concepts
or skills. Practice is important
because it helps your child master important skills.
Often, however, the children who need the most practice
are those who find homework to be harder, take longer,
and raise negative feelings. Start by making sure your
child understands what the assignment is and the
directions for completing it. Next, find out if he/she has
learned enough at school to do the work on his/her own.
If your child has problems in either of these areas,
schedule a conference with the teacher to develop a
home-school communication system. One example
would be an assignment sheet (perhaps in the Student
Agenda) that the teacher reviews with the child and
sends home for the parent to read and sign off on.
In order to avoid tracking mud, water and snow
into the classroom, it will be necessary for each
student to have a pair of indoor running shoes that
they will change into as soon as they come to their
class.
We are also requesting that the indoor shoes have
LIGHT coloured soles so that there will be no
black scuff marks on the floors indoors.
We appreciate your assistance to this matter.
EXCURSIONS:
Educational trips which extend learning
opportunities in curriculum areas, may be planned
during the year. By law, the school must have on
file, permission forms which must be signed by
the parent/guardian.
If on the day of the excursion, your child did not
return his/her form, and the parent/
guardian cannot come into the
school to sign the permission form,
the student will remain at the
school. A verbal telephone
permission is not acceptable.
Where is it done?
For some children, a small desk where supplies are
stored is the best place to do homework. With other
children, the kitchen table may be the best place.
Wherever your child works, you should be able to check
to see if he/she is sticking to the task, especially if there
are problems with concentration, and be able to offer
encouragement.
LOST & FOUND BOX:
When is it done?
Our Lost and Found box is full. Students are
encouraged to check the Box if they have lost any
items.
If you feel that you would like to
view these items yourself, please
report to the Office and we will
provide you a Visitor’s Badge
before entering the school.
For some children, right after school is
the perfect time to do the work because
the assignment is fresh in their minds. Others need a
break before they can do more school work. Sometimes
team sports, a parent’s work schedule, or other activities
interfere with doing homework immediately after school.
With your child’s input, you may need to develop two
plans: one for the usual day and one for the unusual
events.
MILK PROGRAM:
Canada’s Food Guide recommends at least two
daily servings of dairy. In order to assist
you, we offer Milk to all grades.
White or Chocolate Milk are
available daily for $1.00 each.
GRADE 1 FRENCH IMMERSION:
As a parent/guardian of a child in
Dufferin-Peel Senior Kindergarten
classroom, parents may wish to
consider the French Immersion
program as a
possibility for Gr. 1 in September 2016. French
Immersion is a program in which 90% of the Gr.
1 instruction is delivered in French. Instruction in
English is added in later years.
Transportation is NOT provided for students. It is
the responsibility of parents/guardians to transport
their children to and from the French Immersion
Centre.
A letter was sent home with Senior Kindergarten
students inviting families to apply for their child’s
placement in French Immersion Gr. 1, beginning
September 2016. Please check this letter for
further details about the application process and
deadlines.
An information meeting was held at St. Angelina
Merici Elementary School on

VACATIONS DURING THE SCHOOL
YEAR:
The expectation is to have students in school for
the full school year — September to June.
Teachers have a great deal of curriculum to cover
and need sufficient time to properly
assess and evaluate student learning.
Please make all efforts to refrain from
booking holidays during the school
year. Your consideration, cooperation and
attention to this matter is greatly appreciated.

BULLY AWARENESS WEEK:
The week of Nov. 15 – 22 is Bully Awareness Week.
The Safe Schools Team at Our Lady of Providence will
have many powerful messages, prayers and songs to
promote bullying prevention and awareness. Through
announcements the students will listen to songs that
have a positive message. The students have been given a
challenge to decorate their classroom door with bullying
awareness messages. We are very eager to see the
creative and powerful messages.
The Safe School Team consists of students in grade 1 -8,
parents and teachers. The goal is to have the students’
voices heard and assist in promoting inclusiveness for
all. We are planning many activities, guest speakers and
events throughout the year to promote a safe school
community.
Dear God,
Thank you for providing us with the gift of Diversity,
Bless us with open hearts and minds in order to truly see
the good in others.
Show us the way to embrace and appreciate our
differences.
Help us to learn from others and to be kind to one
another.
Everyone experiences difficult times in life.
REGULAR ATTENDANCE & PUNCTUALITY:
JUNIOR VOLLEYBALL:
Regular attendance and punctuality are important life
skills that apply not only in the
educational setting, but throughout
life. When a student arrives late, it is
a disruption to his/her learning as well
as to the learning of the entire class.
The total number of days absent and
late are documented and become part
of the student’s record.
Students should arrive on time to line up with their
peers when the bell rings. It is a parent’s
responsibility, as outlined in the Education Act, to
ensure that their child is in regular attendance and on
time for school. When regular attendance and
punctuality are problematic, a meeting with parents,
the Principal, and other school personnel may be
required in order to discuss a plan for helping the
child to improve attendance or prompt arrival.
The Junior Volleyball season, ending in
October was a huge success!
With only 1 1/2 months to prepare, the
Teams had their work cut out for them!
On October 7th both teams took part in the mini
tournament at OLOP playing against three other schools in
the area. OLOP was the school to beat! They had to be on
top of their game. Both the girls and boys’ Teams won all
their matches in this tournament advancing them to the
family level tournament.
On October 15th both teams took part in the Family level
tournament at St Michael in Bolton. Both Teams played
against the top 4 Teams in the Family of schools. The
word was out that OLOP had 2 strong teams and once
again they were the school to beat. Both teams won the
Family level tournament advancing them to the Board
level tournament on October 21st. The boys’ Team visited
Father Michael Goetz with Mr. Farhat and the girls’ Team
visited St. Roch with Mr. Chalons.
The top 8 Teams across the Board were present at the
Board level tournament so the competition was really
strong.
The boys’ Team had never faced this type of competition,
after drawing one point in their first game, losing both of
their matches in the second game and then winning both
matches in the last game. The OLOP boys went head to
head for the tie breaker but they did not have enough point
difference to advance into the semi-finals. The boys
finished third in their round robin division. Mr. Farhat &
Mr. Chalons are proud of the boys!
The girls’ Team came in first place in their round robin
division winning all 6 sets moving them to the semi-finals,
where they ended up playing against the 2nd place Team
from the B division! The semi-finals were a little more
difficult for the girls. They won a nail biting first set 25-24
but pulled themselves together to win the second set 2521.
The girls advanced to the championship round where they
ended up playing the 2nd place team from the A division.
The girls felt their first loss from all three tournaments
losing their first set 25-15. They took to the court and won
the second set 25-17 forcing the two teams to play a third
set to 15. It almost seemed that the girls spent all their
energy to win the second set as they fell behind early in
their third set 8-2. As the teams switched sides the OLOP
girls glanced at the score board which seemed to trigger a
second wind for the girls. They came out and played to
win the championship round 15-11.
Mr.Chalons is very proud of the girls Team as they
represented OLOP with class and returned to the school
with the Board championship banner which
is the first in OLOP history!
The coaches, Mr. Chalons and Mr. Farhat
would like to congratulate both teams on
their success!!
