Objective: As a group, go through the process of writing four pieces from each of the modes
that we studied so far this year: narrative, informational, opinion, and text-dependent
analysis.

Write a fantasy story in which you, in first
person, battle a “dragon”. Here are some titles
to work with:

 “Escape from the Eagle’s Nest”
 “The Red Puddle”
…or anything that you can think of.
Think of all the places you hear music. This
could be in school or out of school. This could
be the main focus of an activity or behind the
scenes of an activity. This could be recorded
music or live music. In what ways does music
help people?
Write an essay for your teacher that describes
how music helps people. Be sure to use details
and examples to explain your ideas.
Mr Bucci is considering hiring a teacher to
teach students a foreign language. Some people
think this is a good idea. Others think that the
educational opportunity is not worth the cost.
Should Glenwood start teaching foreign
language?
Write an essay to Mr. Bucci that states your
opinion and explains why. Be sure to use
details and reasons to support your opinion.

The PSSA prep passages on eagles discuss the
impact that people have had on the bald eagle.
Write an essay analyzing how people are
helping the bald eagle increase in numbers. Use
information from all three passages to support
your response.
