Open-Ended Practice:
1)
A campground water storage tank was filled its maximum capacity of 3000 gallons on Tuesday morning.
If a general rate of consumption is 378 gallons/day, write an equation that represents the water usage over
the course of the first week. Write and graph (on graph paper) an equation that would represent this
situation. What is the slope of the line formed? Is the slope positive or negative? Why? At the end of the
week (by the next Tuesday morning), how much water would you expect to be left in the tank.
2)
We want to rent an RV for a trip to Michigan. Korky’s Kampers will rent an RV for $700/week +
$0.35/mile. Rita’s RVs rents for $1000/week + $0.15/mile. We will drive approximately 1350 miles to get
to Michigan and back. From whom do you recommend we rent the RV? Write equations to represent the
costs from each business. Show work or write an explanation to explain why you selected the rental you
are recommending.
3) Kiera and her friend plan to hike and camp in the state park. A yurt
can be rented for $28 per night, plus a cleaning fee of $22 for the visit.
A cabin can be rented for $175 for a week. Would you recommend they
rent a yurt or a cabin if they plan to stay 5 nights? Write equations to
represent the costs for each. Show work or write an explanation to
explain why you selected the rental you are recommending. What if
they decide to stay an extra night?
