First Week Assignments for the Legal Interviewing, Counseling and Negotiation

For class on Tuesday Aug 20:
For our first LICN class on Tuesday August 20, please read the course Syllabus and
Chapters 1-6 in Essential Lawyering Skills ("ELS"). Please be prepared for a class discussion on
what you consider to be the major themes of those chapters, what are the authors' main points,
and whether anything in the reading surprised you.
For class on Thursday August 22:
Subsections will not meet on Thursday August 22. Instead, the entire class will meet
together in Room 242 from 4:10 to 6:00 pm. For that class, please read Chapters 7-8 in ESL
(Interviewing the Client), and skim the New York Rules of Professional Conduct, focusing on
those rules that may be particularly relevant to the client interview.
