The Soviets used propaganda tirelessly to promote communism,
collectivization, industrialization, its leaders, etc. Soviet citizens were
constantly bombarded with these messages in newspapers, posters,
movies, radio, and television.
Your mission is to choose an issue important to the Soviet Union
under Lenin and/or Stalin and create a 2-minute video (or four 30
second commercials) for the Soviet Union’s Agitprop (Department of
Agitation and Propaganda) that will air on Soviet television. You
may work in groups of 3-4 people.
You will have some time to work on this project in class, but this will
require time outside of the school day to complete. Presentations will
take place on __________. A typed copy of the script/song is due at
that time. This project is worth 50 points.
The video can take any of the following forms:
1. Soap Opera
2. Sit-com
3. Infomercial
4. Music video
5. Four 30-second commercials
Videos must:
- demonstrate student understanding of the issue
- articulate the Soviet perspective on issue
- utilize appropriate propaganda techniques
- be over 2 minutes long (or 30 seconds for the commercials)
- include acting and speaking by all members of the group
- demonstrate preparedness (ex. not reading lines)
Grading Rubric:

_____Accurately addressed the topic, and articulated the Soviet perspective (10
points)
_____Employed a minimum of 2 propaganda strategies with a written
explanation detailing how each was used (10 points)
_____Creatively executed; visuals related to the topic (10 points)

_____Overall quality of presentation (members did not read, everyone
participated in the video, well edited, script submitted) (10 points)
