Upon completion of the course, the student will be able to
A. Perform a through psychosocial assessment, demonstrating effective and therapeutic communication
techniques.
B. Utilize information concerning psychotropic pharmaceutical agents in patient teaching.
C. Demonstrate competency in performing the necessary nursing assessments and utilization of sterile
technique in
providing care for the pre, peri, and post operative patient.
D. Demonstrate competency in the preparation and administration of parenteral/intravenous
medications and fluids.

A. Therapeutic use of self, establishing a therapeutic nurse-patient relationship
B. The nurse-patient relationship in psychiatric nursing
C. Mental Health assessment techniques
D. Assessment of the surgical patient
E. Teaching skills for the Diabetic patient
F. Sterile technique for the surgical patient
G. Parenteral medication administration and Chemotherapy/IV therapy
H. Traction and cast care
