Evolutionary novelties say Bufonidal have the presence of
Bidders Organ: unique pattern of insertion of retraction muscle
of the tongue.(hyoglossus) Loss of the posterior constriction
muscle of the larynx absence of teeth.
Bufonids are basically hoppers and walkers never leapers.
Movement is from side to side instead of leaping as found in
“rana”.
Fun Facts:
The red spotted toads mating call is a
steady pitch. They lay numerous
amounts of eggs single file in strings
of jelly. Lay their eggs in temporary
ponds because that is all there is
mainly in the desert. Eggs develop
quickly , and as they emerge they
turn into tadpoles, but not all
survive. The few that do go into
metamorphosis then turn into very
tiny toadlets.
