Course Title: Research in Info Tech Solutions
Session Title: Creating an ePortfolio
Lesson Duration: Lesson length is subjective and will vary from instructor to instructor
Performance Objective:
Upon completion of this assignment, the student will be able to create and publish an ePortfolio
that emphasizes technical and specialized skills in information technology.
Specific Objectives:
• Students will research and identify career interests using online career self-assessments.
• Students will collaborate and interview professionals in the fields of interest.
• Students will create and publish digital reflections, a written expression and a video
expression, on career goals, statement of personal philosophy, and lessons learned from
industry professional interviews and research.
• Students will create and organize a functional resume.
• Students will identify artifacts to include in an ePortfolio that showcases student passions,
cross-curricular academic abilities, leadership, teamwork, and community activities.
• Students will plan, create, and publish an ePortfolio website to include a statement of
purpose, resume, artifacts, video reflection, letters of recommendation, and a written
reflection blog.
Preparation
TEKS Correlations:
1. The student demonstrates the necessary skills for career development, maintenance of
employability, and successful completion of course outcomes. The student is expected to:
(A) identify and demonstrate positive work behaviors that enhance employability and job
advancement such as regular attendance, promptness, attention to proper attire, maintenance
of a clean and safe work environment, appropriate voice, and pride in work;
(B) identify and demonstrate positive personal qualities such as flexibility, open-mindedness,
initiative, listening attentively to speakers, and willingness to learn new knowledge and skills;
(C) employ effective reading and writing skills;
(D) employ effective verbal and nonverbal communication skills;
(E) solve problems and think critically;
(F) demonstrate leadership skills and function effectively as a team member;

2. The student identifies various employment opportunities in the information technology field.
The student is expected to:
(A) improve on a personal career plan along with education, job skills, and experience
necessary to achieve career goals;
(B) develop a resumé and portfolio appropriate to chosen career plan, including letters of
recommendation; and
(7) The student creates a personal portfolio. The student is expected to:
(A) create a portfolio that documents all projects and accomplishments such as academics,
volunteer experience, employment experience, awards, and certifications;
(B) organize and prioritize information within the portfolio;
(C) use written, verbal, and visual communication techniques consistent with information
technology industry standards.

Guided Practice (LSI Quadrant III):
Instructor will deliver a short presentation to introduce career awareness, career
research guidelines, and the ePortfolio project.
Students will take a career assessment using an online assessment tool. From this
assessment, the instructor will have students identify goals and begin to have
students make connections on resume objective to cross curricular activities,
academic work, extracurricular activities, and community.
Students will create resume rough draft in a Word Processing program and will
receive feedback from instructor before completing the final resume. The instructor
may want to consider guiding the entire class through the process of creating a
resume during this time.
The instructor will introduce students to a variety of web site creation tools,
introduce free domain name sites, and show examples of ePortfolos.
Students will complete a storyboard of their ePortfolio website before beginning
website. The instructor will give feedback on student artifact selection and
reflections during this time.

Students will select a web site creation tool and begin creating a website.
Students will include a final functional resume in their ePortfolio, after correcting the
rough draft resume turned in previously.
