Welcome to Cedarcrest High School! Our mission is to prepare our students for the
challenges of the future. This mission guides the development and implementation
of all of the school’s programs and activities. As a staff, we are committed to the
development of the total child in an environment that is nurturing and respectful.
Cedarcrest opened its doors in 1993. The
school was recognized as a National Blue
Ribbon School largely due to its innovative and
responsive programs. Since then, these
programs have continued to evolve to
accommodate the needs of our students and to
respond to changing state and national
requirements.
Our school has been recognized
consistently throughout the years for our
students’ outstanding success in Advanced
Placement Exams as well as mandatory state and college entrance assessments.
Cedarcrest High School serves approximately 900 students in grades 9-12. As a
member of the Cascade Conference, students have the opportunity to participate in
a wide variety of interscholastic athletic teams and competitions as well as the
opportunity to participate in many inter-high student leadership activities.
As a staff, we are committed to working with you and your student in an environment that is
respectful, inclusive and responsive. Again, welcome to Cedarcrest High School!
Sincerely,
Clarence Lavarias

Facility Information
Cedarcrest is a 92,500 square-foot building that includes 37 fully-equipped classrooms, a
counseling/career center, Learning Resource Center, three new-generation computer labs,
gymnasium, locker room, music room and a dining/kitchen facility. There is also a 335 seat theater
used for both school and community performances.
All classrooms are equipped with at least one computer and one student work station, television,
telephone, and intra-school audio/visual connection. All classrooms are equipped with mounted
digital projection devices. In the Fall of 2012, Active Boards were installed in all classrooms and
conference rooms.
The Cedarcrest multi-purpose physical education and athletic field was dedicated in the fall of 2002.
With the passing of the new capitol projects bond in the Spring of 2007, additional office space for
the counseling center and school-based ancillary staff has been added. The gymnasium was also
remodeled to increase seating capacity and functionality of both court and classroom spaces. A new
wrestling/dance room was constructed, as well as the addition of a 2500 square foot, state-of-the
art weight room. Also, included in the remodel was the addition of an athletic training facility and
classroom that addresses the injury prevention and physical rehabilitation of our athletes.
In the Spring of 2012, a new baseball field which includes seating for 550 spectators, dugouts,
scoreboard, and covered batting cages to be shared by both the baseball and softball teams was
dedicated. Our softball fields have been refurbished and upgraded with new dugouts, scoreboards
and seating for 250. An additional 1200 seats were added to the football/soccer stadium which now
can accommodate over 2,000 seated spectators. Along with the additional seating, a cover was
built over the home-side seats. Additional parking was added to accommodate spectators and
student parking during the day.

In school year 2013-2014, it is projected to cost the Riverview School
District $54.21 to educate each student for one day.
School Safety
Cedarcrest Administration, which includes the principal, assistant principal, and a
dean-of-students, monitors the campus before, during, and after school. Teachers
monitor the halls during breaks and passing time. The halls and outside of the
building are equipped with video cameras to ensure students’ safety and protect
property.
Student discipline is addressed progressively, unless the violation is considered
exceptional misconduct. There is zero tolerance for harassment and bullying. Should
a student be a victim or if a student engages in bullying or harassing behaviors, the
situation will be addressed promptly and in accordance with the district’s Bullying and
Harassment Policy by the school administration.

PTSA
The PTSA is an integral part of Cedarcrest High School. Besides fundraising, the PTSA
provides financial grants for teachers and coaches to implement classroom and
extracurricular activities that otherwise would not be possible. PTSA also provides
scholarships for graduating seniors. The PTSA operates the school store with 100% of
store profits going back to students in the form of teacher grants and student
scholarships. The school store is always in need of parent volunteers to help with this
endeavor. Besides the school store, the PTSA also runs the athletic food concessions.
The concessions are manned by various student groups who share directly in the
profits from these concessions. Last year, the PTSA donated approximately $15,450
directly back to the school.
