FS-VDSL Overview
Launched in Paris, July 2000
Target : end-to-end video-centric platform specification to be
published in May 2002
Scope includes architecture, video elements, protocols, customer
equipment functionality, VDSL transceivers, operations
Successful verification of specifications via international system
demonstrators hosted by operators
Leverage end-to-end interoperability
FS-VDSL Committee has joined ITU in 2002 as a focus group
attached to SG16
Despite the name, FS VDSL addresses all DSL technologies
capable of supporting video delivery (ADSL, ADSL2+, VDSL)

End-to-end protocols to support basic connectivity and basic function
The use of an hybrid modem performing both L2 and L3 functions
CPE and network behaviors to support access to several IP networks
Main choices
Use of ATM as layer 2 over DSL
Core network flexibility
Distributed and centralized environment for the CPE
Consideration of an « Ethernet-like » home network
 No selection of an home network technology
Transport of the video is coding-independent

Conclusion
There is not only one definition of triple play
The exact set of service will differ from one country to another
H610 defines a set of functions and tools to help the setup of triple
play services

Considering DSL technologies, mobile network are out of the scope
Service interactions are not considered in detail
SG16/QB plans to investigate in this direction
