Priority 5.2: Develop specific and
relevant recommendations to manage
risks associated with the impacts of
globalization on workers`health
Measurable Key Outcomes 2012
• A summary report describing the positive and negative
impacts of globalization on OH.
• With recommendations on acgtions and interventions
• Giving an overview and framework for the area (e.g.
types of problems, links with other priorities, different
levels of interventions, major audiences to be addressed,
potential partnerships, lessons learned so far, etc.
• With examples from current projects
Gaps to be addressed
• Current projects limited in regional
coverage and issues
• Project team needs additional expertise to
summarise effects and formulate policies,
recommendations and actions

Transfer of hazardous technologies
Relationship with climate change

• Migration of health care workers (to the
rich countries)
• Banning of asbestos, certain pesticides

• Few specific projects:
(1) stimulate projects on effects and
solutions
(2) linkages with existing projects e.g.
vulnerable workers, climate change, international
chemicals management
• Additional expertise:
(1) Summary of effects: reviewers
(2) Policies, identifiying existing global initiatives that
we can team-up with, or learn from e.g. Global Compact
Initiative, fair trade initatives, etc.

• Writing a framework document

contributions and review
• Including…overview of positive and negative
impacts, other policies that OH needs to be
integrated in.., lessons learned form existing
projects, major stakeholders, etc. major
recommendations for specific target groups
Invitation to all
• Let us know if you have projects, that
address issues related to globalization,
e.g. shifting risks
• Start conversations on the issue, it is
relevant, challenging, and it deserves and
will get great interest
