Spanish Level 2+
(Common European Framework Level A2)
Prerequisite for entry
Successful completion of Spanish Level 2 at UCL CLIE or for learners who have studied the
language before, for instance up to GCSE level.
Term duration
10 x 2-hour classes
Progression
After 20 hours students may progress to level 3
Aims and Objectives
The aim of the course is to enable students with a good knowledge of basic Spanish to reach
an intermediate level and to communicate in and understand Spanish.
Functions

Talking about what you did yesterday.

Talking about the past: holidays and travels.

Narrating the most important facts of someone's life. Talking about important people
in Spanish and Latin-American culture.

Talking about last weekend. Asking and giving opinions about the activities that we
did during the last weekend.

Asking and giving information about public places in a city. Giving instructions to get
to a place.

Asking for permission. Giving and refusing permission. Asking for favours and help.
Asking for things. Borrowing and lending things.

Describing objects. Expressing purpose. Expressing possession. Talking about gifts and
presents.

Describing the way things and places used to be in the past. Talking about our
childhood.

Comparing how things, people and places used to be in the past and how are they
now. Comparing our past habits with our current ones.

Revision of basic rules of the pronunciation of spoken Spanish.
Grammar

The preterite tense: regular and irregular verbs.

The preterite tense: alternation e-i in the 3rd person singular and plural.

Ser + bueno/malo; estar + bien/mal.

The absolute superlative.

Parecer + adjetivo.

¿Puedo + infinitive?, ¿puedes + infinitive? ¿se puede + infinitive?

¿Me das…?; ¿Me dejas…?

The imperative affirmative, singular.

The imperative affirmative + direct object pronouns.
