COOPER LIGHTING - SURE-LITES ®
DESCRIPTION
The P4C Series is a decorative, mini-system that features solid-state
electronics and a long-life, maintenance-free battery. The low-profile
design combined with its remote capabilities provides a flexible, low cost
electronic system. The P4C is designed for surface mounting but may be
semi-recessed or fully recessed by using a field-installed recessing kit.
The diffused tungsten halogen light source and reliable electronics make
the P4C Series ideal for illuminating corridors, stairways, doorways, and
offices.

Optics
High output tungsten halogen lamps are
optimally located in polished metal reflector
assembly. High strength acrylic diffuser is
matched to the optical system to maximize light
output.
E n c l o s u re
Attractively styled thermoplastic housing is
impact resistant. White collar with regress blend
nicely with interior decors. Semi-recessed
installation in walls and ceilings is facilitated
with the USF-1 accessory kit. FRK-1 accessory
rough-in kit allows the P4C unit to be fully
recessed in ceiling installations. FRK-1 is
supplied with white finishing trim.
L i n e - L a t ch e d
Sure-Lites’ line-latched electronic circuitry
makes installation easy and economical. A labor
efficient AC-activated load switch prevents the
lamps from turning on during installation to a
non-energized AC circuit. Line-latching
eliminates the need for a contractor’s return to a
job site to connect the batteries when the
building’s main power is permanently turned
on.
S o l i d - S t a te C h a rge r
Supplied with a 120/277 VAC, voltage regulated
solid-state charger. Immediately upon
restoration of AC current after a power failure,
the charger provides a high charge rate. The
charge circuit reacts to the condition of the
battery and alters the rate of charge in order to
maintain peak battery capacity and maximize
battery life. Solid-state construction recharges
the battery following a power failure in
accordance with UL 924.
O ve rl o a d a n d S h o rt C i rc u i t P ro te c t i o n
Te s t Sw i t ch / Powe r I n d i c a to r L i g h t
The solid-state overload monitoring device in
the DC circuit disconnects the lamp load from
the battery should excessive wattage demands
be made and automatically resets when the
overload or short circuit is removed. This
overload current protective feature eliminates
the need for fuses or circuit breakers for the DC
load.
Conveniently located Test Switch allows for
manual verification of proper operation of the
transfer circuit and emergency lamps. The
Power Indicator Light provides visual assurance
that the AC power is on.
B row n o u t C i rc u i t
The brownout circuit in Sure- Lites’ units
monitors the flow of AC current to the unit and
activates the emergency lighting system when a
predetermined reduction of AC power occurs.
This dip in voltage will cause most ballasted
fixtures to extinguish causing loss of normal
lighting even though a total power failure has
not occurred.
S e a l e d L e a d C a l c i u m B a tte r y
The fully sealed, long-life, maintenance-free
lead calcium battery is ideal for emergency
lighting applications. These recombinant cycle
batteries typically provide eight to ten years of
life and may be operated in any position.
Wa rra n t y
All Sure-Lites’ units are backed by a firm oneyear warranty against defect in material and
workmanship (excluding lamps). Maintenancefree, long-life, sealed lead calcium batteries
carry a five-year pro-rata warranty.
S o l i d - S t a te Tra n s fe r
The unit incorporates a solid-state switching
transistor which eliminates corroded and pitted
contacts or mechanical failures associated with
relays. The switching circuit is designed to
detect a loss of AC voltage and automatically
energizes the lamp(s). Upon restoration of the
AC power, the emergency lamp(s) will switch off
and the charger will automatically recharge the
battery.
L ow- Vo l t a ge D i s c o n n e c t
When the battery’s terminal voltage falls below
80% of the rated voltage, the low-voltage
circuitry disconnects the lighting load. The
disconnect remains in effect until normal utility
power is restored, preventing deep battery
discharge.
