Bashir has been involved in the `hi-technology projects’ for over 30 years and worked in the
telecommunications sector for over 25 years. He started his career in advance projects in British
Aerospace designing military aircraft systems and then moved on to developing global satellite
communications systems for Inmarsat where he was involved in numerous projects including
development of Aeronautical satellite communications and instrumental in inventing a new low
cost data communications system that is in use all over the world today.
As a careered professional, he has been at the forefront of various telecommunications
technologies covering both wired and wireless solutions including implementation of national
backbone networks. He has been involved on all aspects of the telecommunications industry from
working with Governments on policy related matters to Regulators on development of licensing /
spectrum framework as well as executing projects with Operators through raising necessary
finances. He has also worked with the industry and Governments on implementation of national
security networks.
At present he is Director of Programmes and Business Development for the Commonwealth
Telecommunications Organisation working with Commonwealth Governments, Regulators and
Operators covering some 53 countries stretching from the Caribbean through Europe, Africa to
Asia-Pacific.
